Gregory Porter has announced his first festive record.
'Christmas Wish' will arrive through Blue Note/Decca Records on November 3 and finds the Grammy Award-winner paying tribute to legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Dinah Washington and Nat King Cole.
Featured among the record's 12-song tracklist are the seasonal staples Silent Night and Little Drummer Boy, as well as Marvin Gaye's Purple Snowflakes, Stevie Wonder's Someday At Christmas and Frank Loesser's What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?, which features guest vocals from the two-time Grammy Award-winning Samara Joy.
Produced by frequent collaborator, Troy Miller, it also includes three original songs by the American jazz, blues and soul artist, who is accompanied throughout the album by his backing band, with orchestra contributions recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London.
New recordings written for the album include its title track, Heart for Christmas and the newly shared first single, Everything's Not Lost, a warm piano ballad about those less fortunate than ourselves. Porter said:
"I’m always thinking of balance. That has been instilled in me and it keeps coming up in a lot of my music. At your highest, at your greatest, at your most pleasant time, don’t forget about other people who are suffering."
Porter will return to the Royal Albert Hall for a performance on December 13, having played three sold out shows at the iconic London venue earlier this year.
His most recent LP came in the form of 2020's 'All Rise'.
