Green Day will return with their 14th studio album early next year.
The follow-up to 2020's 'Father of All Motherfuckers' is called 'Saviors' and will arrive on January 19 via Reprise/Warner Records. It was recorded in London and Los Angeles with Grammy-winner Rob Cavallo, who also helmed the band's previous LPs 'Dookie' (1994) and 'American Idiot' (2004).
As a preview, the punk trio have shared the record's first single, The American Dream Is Killing Me, an upbeat, infectious song that musically belies its sombre lyrical subject matter, which touches on homelessness and unemployment.
The track arrives with a video shot in Los Angeles and co-directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley. A note in the video's descriptions reads:
Saviors is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years.
It's raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record.
Honesty and vulnerability.
What is Saviors about, you ask?
Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility,,..
What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?
More news is expected from the band on November 2. It may be a US stadium tour announcement, which the band were handing out flyers for at their shows this weekend — see the post below from Rancid drummer Branden Steineckert.
