Luke Hemmings of 5 Seconds Of Summer has announced a new solo EP.
'Boy' is scheduled for release through Arista Records on April 26, and will feature the newly shared single Shakes.
Co-produced by Hemmings and frequent collaborator Sammy Witte, the dream-pop track pulls inspiration from artists like LCD Soundsystem, My Bloody Valentine, and Cocteau Twins. Writing on social media, Hemmings said:
"I wrote these songs in a moment in my life when I found myself questioning everything I thought I knew about the world and myself. All the emotions, fears and grief that came with it."
It follows his 2021 debut solo record, 'When Facing The Things You Turn Away From', and was written, "on a dreary NYC evening in between long periods of being on the road. This made it come naturally to write from a melancholy place and feeling of yearning to be back home and feeling lonely and emotionally depleted.
"There is a longing for love and self-acceptance in the lyrics and I hope it to be a song and feeling that anyone listening can find themselves in and attach their own story."
5 Seconds Of Summer put out their fifth studio LP, '5SOS5', in 2022. In 2023, they embarked on a world tour, put out the live LP 'The Feeling Of Falling Upwards (Live At The Royal Albert Hall)', and dropped an hour-long free concert film capturing their show at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam earlier that year.
