Kate Nash has announced her fifth studio album.
The long-awaited follow-up to 2018's 'Yesterday Was Forever' is called '9 Sad Symphonies' and will arrive on June 21 via the Brit Award-winning artist's new label home at Kill Rock Stars.
The record draws inspiration from Hollywood glamour and vintage musicals, with further influence coming from Nash's work with Danish producer Frederick Thaae on the off-Broadway production Only Gold. Thaae also produced the record. Nash said:
"I've climbed through the sewers of this industry and so my goal is to make good music I believe in, to have longevity, and have good live shows. I don't feel competitive with the industry anymore. I've been in the game for twenty years, and I'm in my own league now."
The details arrive alongside the LP's opener, Millions Of Heartbeats, a stirring, orchestral alt-pop ballad. It follows the London artist's February single, Change. Nash explained:
"Millions of Heartbeats is a song about losing your spark. It can be difficult to find hope in a world that’s constantly bombarding you with bad news, chaos and capitalism. It’s scary when you lose that spark and can’t lift yourself out of a pit. It can feel like that light you once had might never come back.
"The button to the song is that there’s millions of heartbeats on this planet and that’s the reason we have to try. All we have right now is earth and each other. And that’s actually a lot. So just keep trying."
The singer-songwriter will celebrate her return with a show at London's EartH on May 17. She'll also support The Kooks on Brighton Beach in July, ahead of appearances at Kendal Calling and Boardmasters in August.
In the autumn, Nash will headline London's KOKO on November 28. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on March 22.
