Dolly Parton has shared a cover of Tom Petty's Southern Accents.
The stirring new version stays faithful to the 1985 country ballad and was recorded for an upcoming tribute compilation, 'Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty', which is due out on June 21 via Big Machine. Head below to view the track's accompanying video, directed by Trey Fanjoy. Parton said in a statement:
"I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years. He’s such an iconic artist and important songwriter. I’m so honored to be a part of this special album and to be able to share my version of one of Tom’s best songs, Southern Accents."
Executive produced by George Drakoulias, Randall Poster and Scott Borchetta, the album features an array of country stars honouring Petty, including Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Lady A, The Brothers Osborne, Steve Earle and Marty Stuart.
Back in January, Parton dropped a deluxe edition of her rock album 'Rockstar', which included new renditions of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) and Billy Joel's The Entertainer.
In related news, Beyoncé's new album, 'Cowboy Carter', includes an updated version of Parton's classic song Jolene.
