Alesha Dixon has released her first new single in nine years.
Ransom finds the British MC expanding on her R&B, garage and hip hop roots, fusing dancehall and reggae with a sample from Ini Kamoze's 1994 hit Here Comes The Hotstepper. Produced by Supa Dups, it arrives with a video shot on location in Port Antonio and Kingston, Jamaica, reflecting the singer's Jamaican heritage. She said:
"I'm not trying to play the game, I'm just doing me, and that feels really cool - that's where I’m at.
"I wanted a sample that was super familiar. Known and loved by all races, I wanted to fuse my commercial persona with my roots, the music I grew up on and still love that is such a big part of who I am. Being in Jamaica feels like home and it has both a spiritual calm as well as a bass line thumping around every corner!"
Dixon's most recent album is 2015's 'Do It For Love'.
