Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has shared a new Yannis & The Yaw single.
Rain Can't Reach Us will feature on the 'Lagos Paris London' EP he recorded with the late Nigerian drummer Tony Allen, which is due out through Transgressive on August 30 under the name Yannis & The Yaw. Introducing the song, Philippakis said:
"We actually referred to Rain Can't Reach Us as The Tornado for a long time because it feels like a gale blowing through your house and it's just cool to hear Tony at the heart of that. There’s a chance it could have become a Foals track, but sharing that idea with Tony made it become this other thing. I think that's really exciting, it's like putting in random coordinates, getting in your car and driving and not knowing where you're going to show up. You could be led anywhere."
Built on apulsating Afrobeat rhythm and guided by Philippakis' distinctive falsetto vocals, it follows on from the previously unveiled cuts from the five-song EP, Walk Through Fire and Under The Strikes.
Yannis & The Yaw will play their debut live shows in Amsterdam, Paris and London in September. Tickets are on sale now.
Foals' latest album is 2022's 'Life Is Yours'.
Yannis and the Yaw Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows
Tue September 10 2024 - AMSTERDAM Paradiso (Netherlands)
Wed September 11 2024 - PARIS La Cigale (France)
