Nandi Rose has announced a new Half Waif studio album.

'See You At The Maypole' will arrive through ANTI- on October 4, following up 2021's 'Mythopoetics', though last month she released the 'Ephemeral Being' EP.

Where its predecessor explored darker, familial traumas, the new record was intended to feature odes to motherhood and new beginnings, after Rose decamped to the Catskill Mountains for writing sessions during summer 2021 and discovered she was pregnant a month later. In a sad twist of fate, the project took on a different theme when Rose suffered a medical issue that followed a miscarriage in December.

Head below to hear the record's poignant first single, Figurine, a contemplative, impassioned ballad that marks some of Rose's most raw, personal work to date. It arrives with a Derrick Belcham-directed video, featuring choreography by Kora Radella. Rose explained:

"Not everyone will go through a miscarriage, but this is a song about how to continue on after losing something precious, how to find the light on your face again. Head up, it’s gonna get so much better you'll see."

Writing sessions were again skewed, with Half Waif finding out that her mother-in-law had been diagnosed with aggressive pancreatic cancer.

She continued: "This wasn’t just my story, I wanted to say. It was every story of loss—the loss of a life, the loss of a dream, the loss of trust and hope and faith. A story of finding a way back again. My own avenue back to the land of the living was through my relationships with people and with the natural world. It only seemed right that these songs would invite those people in to build the very heart of the sound."

Produced by longtime collaborator Zubin Hensler, with contributions from a rotating band comprising an array of musicians, the album is backed up by Half Waif US tour dates in October, January and March. Head here for details.
