Peter Perrett Announces New Album 'The Cleansing' Featuring Johnny Marr, Bobby Gillespie And More

Peter Perrett has announced a new album.
'The Cleansing’ will arrive through Domino on November 1 and features an array of guest collaborators among its 20-song tracklist, including Johnny Marr, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, Fontaines D.C.'s Carlos O’Connell, and Dream Wife guitarist Alice Go.
Created alongside his sons Jamie and Peter Jr., as well as members of his live band, the project marks the Only Ones frontman's third record as a solo artist, following 2019's 'Humanworld' and 2017's 'How The West Was Won'. It explores themes of art, addiction, aging and social media, with the lead single and opening track, I Wanna Go With Dignity, a guitar-led rock song that tackles the subject of death.
The opener arrives with a dedication to the late Fiona H. Stevenson, also known as Fay Wolftree, and both Gillespie and O’Connell appear on the song, with the former also featuring in the accompanying Douglas Hart-directed video. Perrett said:
"I know some of the subject matter is death, suicide and depression, but I feel there is an uplifting atmosphere to the album, because I’m obviously enjoying recognising what is going on around me. I feel that, the older you get, the more reflective you get. I’d always been flippant about the way I approached life, only living in the moment, but then you start to look back at the choices made. I wanted to be more focused about what I wanted to say. I’m still writing about love and the human condition, but perhaps more sentimental, and less abject cynicism, than usual. I also am more focused about the music. Before, I’d put down two guitars, bass and drums, and that was the song: I didn’t give the process much thought. But then we started opening things up."
The 72-year-old singer, songwriter and musician has also confirmed an intimate show at London's Moth Club on October 19. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on August 16.
