Manic Street Preachers have released a new single.
Decline & Fall premiered on BBC Radio 6 Music, and offers up the insightful, but not overbearing, lyrics and melodic rock which have become their staple.
It's the first taste of the Welsh band's next album, and was recorded at their Door To The River studio in Newport and Rockfield Studios in Monmouth. Production was handled by their regular collaborators Dave Eringa and Loz Williams, and mixing was done by Caesar Edmunds. Manics said:
“Musically with ‘Decline & Fall’ we tried to create forward motion - a song which harnesses the past to propel it into the future - the lyric is one of realisation and understanding - of celebrating the tiny miracles that still exist whilst accepting and embracing managed decline”.
The trio's last studio album was 2021's 'The Ultra Vivid Lament', though they did put out 'Know Your Enemy (Deluxe Edition)' in 2022 and 'Lifeblood 20' this April, which marked the 2004 LP's 20th anniversary.
Bassist-vocalist Nicky Wire, meanwhile, surprise released a new solo album, 'Intimism', in July 2023, following his 2006 debut, 'I Killed The Zeitgeist'.
Manics have had a busy summer of outdoor shows and festivals appearances. Their next gig will be appearing at BBC Radio 2 In The Park on September 8.
