Chroma, HMS Morris, Gruff Rhys And Skindred Among Acts Shortlisted For Welsh Music Prize

Chroma (pictured), HMS Morris, Gruff Rhys and Skindred are among the acts shortlisted for this year's Welsh Music Prize.

Now in its 14th year, the award recognizes the best in creativity from the growing Welsh music scene, as well as music made by Welsh people around the world.

The 2024 shortlist includes 15 albums that were selected by judges Caroline Cullen (Series Producer - Later…with Jools Holland/BBC Studios), CassKid (Broadcaster, DJ and music producer), Jude Rogers (Writer arts/culture for Guardian and Observer, Author), Molly Palmer (DJ/Radio Wales Presenter), Owain Elidir Williams (Founder of independent music website, Klust), Sofia Ilyas (Beatport/FLOAT) and Tom Morgan (NME/Clash).   • Angharad – 'Motherland'
  • Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard – 'Skinwalker'
  • Chroma – 'Ask for Angela'
  • Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog – 'Mynd â’r tŷ am dro'
  • Elkka – 'Prism of Pleasure'
  • Georgia Ruth – 'Cool Head'
  • Gruff Rhys – 'Sadness Sets Me Free'
  • HMS Morris – 'Dollar Lizard Money Zombie'
  • L E M F R E C K – 'Blood, Sweat & Fears'
  • Mellt – 'Dim Dwywaith'
  • Pys Melyn – 'Bolmynydd'
  • Skindred – 'Smile'
  • Slate – 'Deathless'
  • Ynys – 'Dosbarth Nos'

The winner will be revealed at a ceremony presented by BBC Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on October 8. The event will also feature live performances from a selection of shortlisted acts.

Supported by Creative Wales, PRS for Music, PPL and Help Musicians, the ceremony is also part of the Cardiff Music City Festival and marks the opening of Llais festival.

Past winners include Kelly Lee Owens, Boy Azooga, Deyah, Gruff Rhys, and Gwenno. The 2023 prize went to duo Rogue Jones for 'Dos Bebés'.
