Tito Jackson, an original member of The Jackson 5 and brother of the late Michael Jackson, has died aged 70.
His death was confirmed with an Instagram post by his three sons, Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson, who were in the group 3T during the 1990s. They wrote:
"It's with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.
"Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as “Coach Tito” or some know him as “Poppa T.” Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be “Tito Time” for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is “Love One Another.” We love you Pops."
Founded in 1964, The Jackson 5 comprised Tito and his siblings Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, who went on to become a world famous pop icon. They sold over 150 million records and found fame with hits such as ABC, Blame It On The Boogie, The Love You Save and I Want You Back. Tito played the guitar and provided backing vocals.
In 1980, The Jackson 5 were presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1997, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tito began a solo career in 2003. He was nominated for three Grammy Awards and was the last of The Jackson 5 siblings to release a solo record, dropping 'Tito Time' in 2016.
In the days leading up to his death, Tito was still performing with his brothers Jackie and Marlon, with the trio playing Boogietown Festival near London on September 8, before heading to Munich, Germany just days before his passing.
Tito is survived by his three sisters (Janet, LaToya and Rebbie), four brothers (Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy), and their mother Katherine.
