A new MC5 single has been shared.

Titled Heavy Lifting, the swaggering rock track features vocals from Brad Brooks, in addition to those from founding member Wayne Kramer (pictured), alongside guitars from Tom Morello. It serves as the title and opening track of the influential Detroit proto-punk pioneers' upcoming album, due out on October 18 via earMusic. Morello said:

"I think 'Heavy Lifting' is a record which certainly fits very well into the excellence of the MC5 catalogue. It does stand as a testament to a lifetime of rock and roll greatness."

Produced by Bob Ezrin, the LP will also feature the previously unveiled singles Can't Be Found with Living Colour's Vernon Reid and Boys Who Play With Matches.

Late founding member Kramer, the last remaining active member of the band, died back in February following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Original MC5 drummer Dennis 'Machine Gun' Thompson, who plays on two tracks, passed away in May.

Other special guests on the record include Slash, William DuVall of Alice In Chains, Don Was, and Tim McIlrath of Rise Against.

The follow-up to 1971's 'High Time' will arrive the day before MC5 are to be honoured with the Musical Excellence Award as part of their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
