Idles, Massive Attack and Nile Rodgers are to play shows in Liverpool to support climate action project Act 1.5.
The series of concerts, entirely powered by 100% renewable energy, will take place at the M&S Bank Arena in late November to mark today's announcement that Liverpool is the world's first UN Accelerator City for climate action. Head here for more details.
Bristol band Idles (pictured) will take to the stage on November 28, followed by trip hop band Massive Attack the next day, and funk and soul legend Nile Rodgers and CHIC on November 30. Tickets go on general sale at 12pm on Friday (September 27).
The special shows follow Massive Attack’s hometown gig in Bristol in August, which saw the band host the lowest carbon gig of its size ever held. Robert Del Naja, aka 3D of Massive Attack, commented:
"Our recent Bristol show demonstrated beyond question that major live music events can be Paris 1.5 compatible, and that audiences will embrace change enthusiastically. The vast scope of work in Liverpool and UN recognition means we can now concentrate more dynamic pilots and experiments to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. This idea and this insistence are not going back in any box. We’re delighted to see artists like Coldplay testing elements like localised ticket pre-sales as recommended in the Tyndall Centre Paris 1.5 decarbonisation road map and encourage other artists to do so freely. The talking stage is over, it’s time to act."
Idles released their latest album, 'TANGK', in February and are currently on tour in North America. They'll play UK and Ireland shows in November and December, before jetting off to Australia and New Zealand early in 2025. Tickets for those gigs are on sale now.
Massive Attack's last studio album was 2010's 'Heligoland', though they have dropped a deluxe reissue of 1998's 'Mezzanine' since then. Nile Rodgers and CHIC, meanwhile, released their latest album, 'It's About Time', in 2018.
