L E M F R E C K Wins Welsh Music Prize 2024 For 'Blood, Sweat & Fears'

L E M F R E C K has won the Welsh Music Prize for his album ’Blood, Sweat & Fears’.

The BAFTA nominated artist saw off competition from Aleighcia Scott, Angharad, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Chroma, Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog, Elkka, Georgia Ruth, Gruff Rhys, HMS Morris, Mellt, Pys Melyn, Skindred, Slat and Ynys.

Returning for its 14th year with a shortlist of 15 albums, the award recognises the best in creativity from the thriving Welsh music scene, as well as music made by Welsh people all over the world.

DJ Jaffa and Eric Martin received the Welsh Music Inspiration Award, while Adjua, Voya and WRKHOUSE took home the Triskel Award, which celebrates and supports three emerging acts that offer a bright future for music in Wales.  

This year’s judges were Caroline Cullen (Series Producer - Later…with Jools Holland/BBC Studios), CassKid (Broadcaster, DJ and music producer), Jude Rogers (Writer arts/culture for Guardian and Observer, Author), Molly Palmer (DJ/Radio Wales Presenter), Owain Elidir Williams (Founder of independent music website, Klust), Sofia Ilyas (Beatport/FLOAT) and Tom Morgan (NME/Clash). 

The winner was announced during a ceremony presented by BBC Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff this evening (October 7). Supported by Creative Wales, PRS for Music, PPL and Help Musicians, the ceremony is also part of the Cardiff Music City Festival and marks the opening of Llais festival.

Past winners include Kelly Lee Owens, Boy Azooga, Deyah, Gruff Rhys, Gwenno and Rogue Jones, who won last year’s prize for ’Dos Bebés’.
