The Murder Capital have announced their third studio album.
Recorded over three weeks in Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton, 'Blindness' will arrive on February 21 following up last year's 'Gigi's Recovery' and their debut album, 2019's 'When I Have Fears'.
To coincide with the news, the Dublin quintet has shared the new single, Words Lost Meaning, which offers a grungy, post-punk leaning sound, and follows their previously unveiled cut, Can't Pretend To Know, released earlier this year. Commenting on Congleton's recording process, frontman James McGovern said:
"He wanted us not to start demo-ing or layering any tracks, just phone-record everything. That way, by the time we got to the studio, no song was suffocated by what it needed to be, it was about what the song could become."
On the record's themes, he continued: "There’s what’s in front of us, in our immediate field of vision. There are the things we can touch, the love we can feel. Then there’s everything else. 'Blindness' is the warped belief. The behind us. The secluded. Love at a distance. Faith in denial. Distorted patriotism. The fading face of moments in the rear view. 'Blindness' brings it all into focus."
On the new track, he said: "Words Lost Meaning is where love goes to die. When the words “I love you” are used without thought, without feeling, even as a way to close a conversation, they become stale and diffused. No words mean more than those three combined."
The Murder Capital have Australia and New Zealand shows in the diary for March and April, followed by UK and European tour dates between April 17 and May 17. They'll also support The Maccabees at the reunited indie-rockers' All Points East headline show at Victoria Park, London on August 24. Tickets are on sale now.
