Deerhoof have announced their 20th studio album.
The follow-up to 2023's 'Miracle-Level' is titled 'Noble And Godlike In Ruin' and will arrive on April 25 via Joyful Noise Recordings. Self-produced by the band, it features a guest appearance from Saul Williams on the song Under Rats.
It'll also include their recent singles, Sparrow Sparrow and Overrated Species Anyhow, as well as the newly shared Immigrant Songs, an experimental indie-rock track that was premiered via Craigslist ahead of dropping onto streaming services. The band's Greg Saunier said:
"This song is kind of a sequel to Satomi describing her immigration tribulations in ‘Exit Only.’ It's what it feels like to see the discourse around immigration get so twisted. The most criminal and barbaric 'migrant horde' to invade America was from Europe. There's a sector of racialised, underpaid immigrants, doing labor white people won't, who are getting deported and dehumanised in record numbers in recent years. They are really the glue keeping our society from collapsing. It's these heroic fugitives, not millionaire politicians holding little signs with one hand while sending out fundraising emails about 'strengthening our borders' with the other, who actually have a thing or two to teach us all about how to resist and survive.”
Deerhoof will support the LP with a North American tour that runs from early May to late June. They also have a mix of headline shows and festival appearances lined up across the UK and Europe in the summer. Tickets are on sale now.
