The first acts have been announced for the 30th edition of London's Meltdown Festival.
Featuring a line-up curated by Mercury Prize, BRIT and MOBO Award-winning rapper Little Simz, the event will return to the Southbank Centre for a mix of ticketed shows and free outdoor concerts, workshops and showcases between June 12 and 22.
Kicking off the run at the Royal Festival Hall will be The Streets on June 12, followed by 2025 BRIT-nominee Lola Young on June 17, MOBO-winning rapper Ghetts on June 18, and Academy Award and seven-time Grammy-winner Jon Batiste on June 21.
Queen Elizabeth Hall, meanwhile, will host the British-Colombian singer-songwriter Sasha Keable with Flames Collective on June 14, with Little Dragon's Yukimi playing a solo show on June 18.
Little Simz has also confirmed a one-off special performance at the Royal Festival Hall on June 22, accompanied by the Southbank Centre Resident Orchestra Chineke! Orchestra. Simz said:
"My team and I are preparing eleven days of art, music, workshops and more. So many incredible artists have curated this festival so it's a true honour to be a part of it. Thank you to the Southbank Centre for having me. Meltdown 2025 the Simz way is going to be epic. I'll see you there."
Head of Contemporary Music at the Southbank Centre, Jane Beese added: "Little Simz' first taste of what's to come from her Meltdown hugely embodies the wealth of influences and inspirations across her work. Ranging from jazz, hip hop, R&B, electronic and soul with a line-up of both renowned legends alongside the creators of the future, this is only the start for what's going to be London's go-to festival this summer."
Artistic Director for the Southbank Centre, Mark Ball commented: "It’s hugely exciting to see a line-up that stretches from our home in London, with multiple artists from across the city, to global names coming to the Southbank Centre for one of our true highlights of the summer. Little Simz' passions and curation showcase the Southbank Centre as an engine of creativity and a cultural playground. I can’t wait to see what else Little Simz has in store."
Tickets for each performance go on general sale at 10am on Friday (March 28). Further names for the Meltdown line-up are to be announced in the coming weeks, along with more information on the festival's free public programme.
