James Blunt Songs Banned By Radio Station

Tuesday, 30 May 2006 Written by Stereoboard.com
ImageJames Blunt has felt the backlash of music lovers in Essex where local radio station Essex FM has bowed to listener power and banned James Blunt from the airwaves.

In what many music fans will hope is the first in a precedence, Blunty's hit single 'You're Beautiful' has taken the wrath of listeners distaste of a song that has basically been overplayed.

Chris Cotton, the station's programme controller, told the Sun: "We don't have anything against James Blunt and we're pleased he has been so successful, but we really need a break."

He went on: "While his songs have been very popular, there is a tremendous amount of industry pressure to play certain artists frequently. Often this can be out of step with the audience's tastes, which results in songs being overplayed."

"We're happy to stand up to this pressure and follow the strong message listeners have given us. We encourage other radio stations to take the same step."
