Lily Allen Announces Break From Music

Daring pop pixie Lily Allen has revealed that she is to take time off from recording music. Lily Allen has always come across as being somewhat a reluctant pop star. She hit the big time from out of nowhere with hits such as ‘Smile’, and her debut album “Alright Still” crashed into the Top 40, but even with such success as this, it seemed Lily had other plans for life.

After a brief spell of acting and trying her hand at hosting her own chat show, which was unfortunately panned by critics, it would seem that it was a case of “don’t give up the day job” for the singer.

Returning to what she does best, Lily silenced her critics with the release of her second album ‘It’s Not Me Its You’ earlier this year. An instant success spawning hits such as Q Awards Best Track ‘The Fear’, and ‘Its Not Fair’ which sneaked some cheeky lyrics onto daytime radio.

But of recent times it has seemed that the singer has fallen out of love with the music industry. In a past interview the singer broke down her royalty payments and explained that it was hardly worth the effort of recording. Further to this claim she went on to endure a torrent of abuse from the web community after posting a blog about the effects of illegal file sharing. The after-effects saw Lily Allen deleting the offending blog and claiming she was through with music.

After an awkward few months the singer confirmed that she is set to depart the music industry for a break of “one or two years”. Speaking to BBC Newsbeat Lily Allen revealed that the forthcoming tour with Dizzee Rascal was “the last thing I’ve got planned. I’m just going to concentrate on doing some behind the scenes sort of stuff”.

She added, “I’m definitely taking a break. I’ve been on the road for pretty much five years now. I mean 2005’s when I started and its coming up to 2010 now. Im tired and I’ve written about everything that has happened in my life in the past ten years and I feel like maybe I need to live life a little bit more before I start writing again.”

“I’m going to get into signing new bands, but at a really early level,” Allen also explained. “I don’t want to compete with other record companies, but I want to support new artists.”

Talking of another side project, Lily Allen also stated that she was set to launch a fashion rental store, called Lucy in Disguise, with her sister. “It’s about making fashion democratic,” she explained. “That’s the idea behind it. Its about getting really nice clothes, but letting people rent them for affordable prices so they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it wont cost them a million dollars.”

Something tells me that we definitely haven’t seen, or heard, the last of Miss Allen.
