Cartoon pop sensation Gorillaz will play two nights at London’s Roundhouse venue later this year in April.
The animated group, formed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, were a multi-media phenomenon. Producing hit single after hit single and releasing hugely popular albums, the band faced a slight problem of performing live.
Using breath-taking, specially filmed animations, live shows by Gorillaz have always been massive events. With their many various collaborations, the cartoon group have been forced in the past to use banks of the very latest technology.
Earlier this year saw the release of Gorillaz new album ‘Plastic Beach’. The record was the band’s third offering and since it's release has been showered with praise. Featuring many collaborations, and probably the only album in history to include both Bobby Womack and Mark E Smith, the album made a big impact on the Top Ten.
In the wake of the release, Gorillaz have now announced that they will play their first London shows in nine years. In a recent interview the band spoke on the importance the city plays in their music, making these two homecoming gigs even more special.
Treading the boards at Camden’s Roundhouse venue, the shows will be the first London appearance for the group since 2001. Taking place on April 29th and April 30th the shows are expected to include a lot of surprises. Live, Albarn will be joined by a host of stars including (deep breath now), Bashy, De La Soul, Mick Jones, Kano, Little Dragon, Mos Def, National Orchestra for Arabic Music, Gruff Rhys, Shaun Ryder, Paul Simonon and Bobby Womack (phew!)
Quite a line up I’m sure you’ll agree. The shows are also set to feature songs from all three Gorillaz albums and are bound to be something very special indeed.
Gorillaz will play the following UK dates:
April 2010
29th Roundhouse, London
30th Roundhouse, London
Tickets are available from 9am on Friday 26th March priced at £45.
