Top UK comedian Bill Bailey will bring his popular stand up show to Ashton Gate Stadium - the home of Bristol City Football Club - on Tuesday, June 15th 2010.
The show will feature the performer's trademark mix of intelligent and surreal comedy with songs and musical interludes.
Raised in the West Country, the Ashton Gate show will be a real homecoming for the comedian, musician and actor best known for his live shows Bewilderness and Part Troll and his work on television in programmes such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Black Books.
Bill says: "Performing at Ashton Gate is a great thrill for me, because it’s a combination of two of my favourite elements in a show - it’s outdoors and it’s in the West Country.
"I always feel that any shows I do in the West Country are homecoming gigs. But there’s also something special about doing a show outdoors in England.
"I’ve played to outdoor crowds at the Glastonbury Festival and recently at the Eden Project, and there’s always a terrific atmosphere, almost anarchic, which I really enjoy."
He says the Bristol show will include references to nuclear power, beetles, the future of the internet, worms, hawks and Lady Gaga; "basically a guide to modern living and the all important musical marriage of Kraftwerk and The Wurzels".
The announcement follows the news that Irish band Westlife will play a major outdoor concert at the stadium on Thursday, June 17th and is the latest in a long line of major events at the venue in the past decade including concerts by Bon Jovi, The Who, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Meatloaf and Bryan Adams.
Group managing director Doug Harman says: "We are delighted to be hosting one of the country's leading stand-up comedians at Ashton Gate.
"Staging a comedy show breaks new ground for us, but Bill Bailey is one of the country’s most well-known and much-loved performers and with his West Country roots we are proud to host what will be the biggest show of his career to date.
"There is sure to be a big demand for tickets and we would encourage anyone who wants to attend to purchase their seats early to avoid disappointment."
A total of 15,000 tickets go on sale from 9am Friday (April 9th) priced between £30-40 for what will be the biggest show of the West Country star's career to date.
