R&B icon Whitney Houston has been lambasted by fans on her live UK return last night.
The 46-year old American singer played her first live show in over 11 years at the Birmingham LG Arena, in front of a sell out crowd of 15,000 fans.
The start of the UK tour had been delayed due to a health concern. Whitney had been advised by doctors to take time off from her touring schedule to recover from a respiratory illness she had been suffering from, postponing her Manchester and Glasgow gigs.
Dressed all in white, the singer greeted the crowd with: "I'm feeling pretty good myself, thank you so much for asking." Nobody had asked.
Fans became noticeably upset when Houston disappeared half way through the set for a costume change, keeping fans waiting for over 15 minutes. On returning to the stage she said: "I could hear you getting p***** off."
The crowd even boo'ed the singer at one stage, having refused to perform 'One Moment in Time', opting instead to show the video on the big screen.
One audience member told BBC Radio 5 live: "She was good when she was good, but when she was not on form, she was awful."
Another fan said: "There was a lot of talking and not enough singing. When you used to go to see Whitney Houston you expected a big show."
Commenting on the Guardian.co.uk website, S1monG said, "Her performance was appalling, the voice was shot and she couldn't reach most of those big notes. Okay she's been ill, but there is no way you can say 'She's back' after that effort last night. The stage production was very poor also - shoddy camerawork didnt help. In no way was the show worth the £100 ticket price. Very very disappointing indeed."
Another gig-goer told Stereoboard.com - "We thought the concert was a complete rip-off. We forked out £110 each for this, and it wasn't value for money. Really is sad to see her obvious decline. I guess the years of drug abuse have really taken their toll."
Houston's tour is set to continue though, she is due to play a handful of further UK dates which includes three nights at London's O2 Arena later this month, as well as the rescheduled gigs at Glasgow's SECC next month and two nights at Manchester's MEN Arena in mid June.
