MySpace To Sell Gig Tickets On Artist Profile Pages

MySpace is to move into live music events, selling tickets for its listed shows, and allowing users to track down shows.
The flagging social networking site has unveiled its ticket selling platform which enables bands to sell tickets to gigs via their profile pages.
A new calendar function on the social networking site will allow fans to keep up to date with tours, nearby shows and record releases.
The site is expected to take a percentage of any tickets sold but it is unclear if there will be any policing to prevent block-buying or ticketing fraud.
When users buy a ticket for any of the one million shows advertised on MySpace’s database, an alert is sent to that user’s friends.
The site has been struggling to compete with growing sites like Twitter and recently turned off its auto-play facility to save paying royalties.
The new functions ape some of the event pages on Facebook, but with an option to purchase tickets. Industry insiders see the move as an attempt not only to raise revenues and increase advertising but to boost the sites lost profile as a music and entertainment hub.
