The Libertines’Carl Barat has admitted that there are still those destructive elements in the band that saw them split back in 2004.
Together again this summer at Augusts Reading & Leeds Festival, their comeback is the most talked about headline of the summer, but Barat explained “there’s always some destructive element in there”.
Talking to The Observer, he continued “there always will be, because of the nature of its ingredients. I don’t really enjoy it – I spend my whole life trying to make some sort of order out of chaos”. The singer described his relationship with Pete as "deeply horrible and beatifically brilliant as the depths of any relationship can allow”.
The former Dirty Pretty Things front-man, also commented on The Libertines enduring popularity, saying “I guess the band were an accurate snapshot of the time, which become a soundtrack. Their friends told their friends and then it all swirled round into one big pop nebula. And then the nebula became compact and it exploded”.
