The Latin superstar guitarist Carlos Santana has announced three UK shows to take place in October later this year.
One of rock’s true survivors, from the early days of his wide-eyed appearance at Woodstock, through his chart-storming 1970’s right up to the Grammy Award-winning Latino legend he has become. Still, Carlos Santana remains one of the most influential guitarists of the modern era.
The guitar hero has a unique blend of ‘old school’ techniques and a ‘new school’ cool style that combines rock, jazz, blues, soul and various cultural genres. With a career spanning over forty years and having sold over 90 millions albums worldwide, being described as “one of rock’s true virtuosos and guiding lights” is definitely not an over-statement.
Santana became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970’s when fusing rock, salsa and jazz together with his band. Their sound was blues-based melodic guitar set against Latin percussion such as timbales and congas. The result was a hugely successful career whilst working to these forms over the next forty years.
Rolling Stone named Carlos Santana number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards.
Carlos Santana will play the following UK dates:
October 2010
1st O2 Arena, London
2nd Manchester Evening News Arena, Manchester
3rd Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle
