One of rock music’s most famous names Thin Lizzy have exploded back on the scene with the announcement of a UK tour set to hit the road in January 2011.
The rowdy Dublin band exploded onto the music scene way back in 1969 when led by the incomparable Phil Lynott. Creating huge hard rock hits, their fresh sound, look and attitude spawned classic songs such as ‘Whisky In The Jar’, ‘Jailbreak’ and ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’.
Having influenced generations of musicians, many would say the peak of Thin Lizzy came during the early 1980s just before the terrible news that founding member Phil Lynott had died at the age of 36.
Now, 24 years since the shocking news, Thin Lizzy still maintains it’s vibrancy and influence with a new line-up forming to take forward Thin Lizzy to a whole new generation of music fans.
Led by the Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton, all who played in Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott, the remainder of the band is made up from some of rock’s greatest musicians. Def Leppard’s Viv Campbell features on guitar, while former Whitesnake and Ted Nugent’s Marco Mendoza plays bass. Fronting the group is The Almighty’s Ricky Warwick on vocals and guitar.
The band have wasted no time in drawing up a tour schedule with the guys set to hit the road in early January next year. What will also excite fans is that Universal have committed to re-issuing some deluxe, special, classic Thin Lizzy material over the next 18 months too!
