Noel Gallagher Joins England's World Cup Campaign

British singer, songwriter and bloody good guitarist Noel Gallagher will be one of the many musical talents set to take part in a new World Cup campaign.

Now only weeks away until kick-off and after four years of anticipation, football shall take over the world – and the TV - once again with fans enjoying weeks of top world class football from across the planet. However, once the winner has been declared and the trophy lifted, a campaign to bring the tournament to England will be fully unleashed.

England has only hosted the competition once, a long time ago back in 1966. A campaign for the country to host the competition again in 2018 has now been launched and a number of familiar faces have jumped on board the campaign wagon.

Former Oasis man Noel Gallagher is set to appear in an 18 second film, shot especially for the World Cup campaign, where he will explain why he believes England should host the competition. A famous Manchester City Football Club fan, the songwriter recently chose fellow Manchester icons, New Order’s ‘World In Motion’, as his favorite world cup anthem.

The new film, which will be broadcast as a television advertisement, has been created by Umbro and will feature Noel Gallagher telling the ‘I’m In’ campaign, "I think it's a travesty that in the whole history of that competition we've only had it once. It would bring the country together and the final will be just round the corner from my house!"

Noel attended the World Cup final back in 2006, which ended with a victory to Italy after a penalty shoot-out. Being a close friend to Italian midfielder Alessandro Del Piero, Gallagher was asked by the superstitious footballer to wear the same clothes throughout the entire tournament.

Other celebrities that have joined in on the campaign include Clint Boon, Trevor Nelson, Michael Owen and Fatboy Slim. Many more are expected to sign up soon.
