Rock veteran former Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters has released details of touring the band’s innovative hit album “The Wall” after thirty years since it was originally performed.
Released in 1979 “The Wall” was a concept album released by Pink Floyd duing the hayday of punk music. Holdng a special place in rock history, the album’s lengthy songs featuring lyrics associated to fame and it’s affect on people, the record became a hugely popular release.
Accompanied by a famously lavish tour, one of the most expensive in history, The Wall Tour only hit four cities between the years of 1980 and 1981 due to the huge costs in logistics and the building of the wall that was constructed during each performance.
Now returning with 30-city tour across Europe, the ambitious jaunt will apparently bring the album up to date, with shows being “a lot more political” than the original outing.
Speaking to BBC, Roger Waters explained that he could not avoid the temptation of hitting the road again.
"I decided to dip my toe back into the world of the touring rock 'n' roll person back at the turn of the century. Two years ago and the year before that I did a tour with the whole of The Dark Side of the Moon. So last year I was thinking, well, what am I going to do? Shall I just play golf or garden or go into politics, or have I got one more of these in me? I'm 66 years old now. So I thought, I think I have got one more. And I love to work."
Continuing, Roger Waters hinted that the tour could be his last of such a scale. "I shall certainly go on working but whether I'll do any more big tours I don't know. My fiancee said to me, if you're going to go out and do it again, do The Wall. That's what people will want to hear."
The new show will also feature some of the latest technology to match the scale of the original show. Fetauring a 240ft and 35ft tall wall and large scale projections, Waters says modern projection systems allow them to beam images on to the whole wall, unlike the tour’s first outing.
The show will also feature the famous crashing airplane, huge inflatable puppets and pyrotechnics that even KISS would envy!
Roger Waters will play the following UK and Ireland dates:
May 2011
15th O2 Arena, London
17th O2 Arena, London
18th O2 Arena, London
20th MEN Arena, Manchester
21st MEN Arena, Manchester
