Rejuvenated Public Image Ltd have announced a six-date UK tour this summer, with the run of concerts going ahead in late July.
Announcing a hiatus in 1993, Public Image Ltd returned last year with some monumental concerts at the end of 2009. Playing as part of their 30th anniversary tour, the performances were the long-dormant group’s first shows in 17 years.
With a name such as Public Image Limited, John Lydon and Co set out to be much more than “just a band”. Mixing together dub, krautrock, prog and more to create a unique sound, their music tore through barriers, making them outcasts even amongst the punk movement.
PiL will be showcasing their vast back catalogue on the newly announced tour. With three decades of music to choose from, tracks such as “Public Image” and “Rise” will be belted out across venues in London, Bristol, Oxford, Leeds, Liverpool and Glasgow.
When asked about the return of PiL, John Lydon simply said: “My body and mind is the Sex Pistols but my heart and soul is PiL.” Not knowing how long the current PiL reunion will last, Lydon hopes that this year’s tour will be able to fund a new album, as long as the reactivated band stick around long enough.
Public Image Ltd will play the following UK shows:
July 2010
19th O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London
20th O2 Academy, Bristol
21st O2 Academy, Oxford
23rd O2 Academy, Leeds
24th O2 Academy, Liverpool
26th O2 ABC, Glasgow
