Glastonbury Tor To Be Illuminated At This Year's Festival

The Glastonbury festival is only a days away as thousands of music fans prepare to decend onto Worthy Farm to help celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary. As part of the celebrations this year, festival organisers have revealed that the Glastonbury Tor will be illuminated from sunset to sunrise.

Anyone who has previously been to the Glastonbury festival will be able to tell you that the partying begins after the lights go out on the Pyramid stage. When the sun goes down the massive campsite comes to life!

The BBC reports that this year revellers will be given the unique experience of seeing St Michael’s Tower on top of the Glastonbury Tor illuminated from sunset to sunrise. Owned by The National Trust, the tower is easily visible from the site and is located a few miles away from the festival. The tor is to be lit up by low energy LED lights to create an illuminated effect.

The Tor is a much talked about subject across the UK, said to be steeped in ancient Arthurian legend. King Arthur and Queen Guinevere’s coffins were apparently discovered there in 1192 and hunters of the Holy Grail say that the legendary Grail itself is buried somewhere on the site.

Speaking to the BBC, Andy Mayled of The National Trust had this to say about the illumination project, "It's the first time the Trust will be at Glastonbury Festival and we wanted to do something special."

Those going to this year’s Glastonbury Festival can expect to see the tower illuminated from 9.31pm every night throughout the festival.
