Legendary guitarist Jimmy Page has spoken about some new material he is currently working on.
Led Zeppelin may have split many years ago but now all three of the remaining band members are still very much in the music making business. Singer Robert Plant has been recognised with a Grammy Award for his work with country star Alison Krauss and bassist John Paul Jones is hard at work with supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.
In latest developments Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are said to be working on new material, whilst John Paul Jones is also crafting a second album with his new bandmates Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. Now, drummer Jason Bonham set to be heading a tribute tour for his father and former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has announced that he is writing new material, in partnership with some well known names.
Page revealed the exciting news to BBC 6Music saying, "I'm just looking forward to making some music and surprising people with it. It won't be just teaming up with lots of people who are (big) names. I've got an idea of something which I've had for a long time and now's the time to do it.”
Jimmy Page was in support of a Led Zeppelin re-union, even going as far as leading searches to discover a possible replacement for the golden god that is Robert Plant. A replacement for Robert Plant? What am I saying?? Anyhow, continuing with the news about Page’s new music, the guitarist said that the new work could be ready for release by as early as the end of the year.
Page also claimed that fans would be surprised by his new direction, "I have got other ideas that have been nagging at me for a long long time, I think the way to present music is same picture different frame, and sometimes this frame is quite radical," he said.
Jimmy Page is expected to release his new material later this year.
