Indie singer-songwriter Carl Barat has been writing new material for the upcoming, long-anticipated Libertines reunion show set for both the Reading and Leeds festivals this August.
Vocalist for The Libertines, perhaps one of the most influential British bands of the last ten years, Carl Barat and Co will play a high-profile slot at the August Bank Holiday festival, promising something very special for the fans.
With the quartet splitting in 2004 after the release of just two studio albums, the group have since played together only a few times with a recent reunion gig last year at The Rhythm Factory, where the group initially cut their teeth in London’s Shoreditch area.
Speaking to NME, Carl Barat explained that he had been working on new material with intentions to send Pete Doherty a possible track for the band. "We haven't done any preparation yet, apart from being in touch," Barat said. "I'm sending Pete a song, I must email that today – maybe we'll do something with that."
It has been a busy year for Carl Barat, working hard on his debut solo album and previewing tracks from the record through a small UK tour last year, the singer’s new acoustic album is expected to be released at the end of 2010.
After a Friday night performance at Glastonbury where the singer played out a string of solo material, Barat now heads to Latitude to introduce the new documentary “The Rime of the Modern Mariner” which he himself narrated.
The Libertines will play at the Reading and Leeds festivals which takes place over the weekend of August 27th to August 29th.
