D’Angelo is an American singer-songwriter and musician hailing from Richmond, Virginia. Born in 1974, he is considered a leading force in the neo-soul genre, a sound which he pioneered, though he is an all-over R&B musician through and through.

Though he first emerged in the early '90s, D'Angleo's talent had already been spotted an incredibly young age - his brother caught him playing the piano at just three years old, and described his playing as 'not banging but a fully-fledged song'.

Releasing his first proper record, ‘Brown Sugar’, in 1995, D’Angelo would well and truly put himself on the map, but it was his second LP, ‘Voodoo’, that saw him reaching #1.

Despite taking an extended break through the ‘00s (apart from a few ventures), D’Angelo returned with his third album, 'Black Messiah', which is also his first credited with The Vanguards, in December 2014. Reaching #5 in the US, the singer would head to the UK in February for a short run of shows in Manchester, Birmingham, and London.
