Hanne Hukkelberg is one of Norway’s most acclaimed and vital artists, who like most great artists, grew up surrounded by instruments and music.
At high school she was discovered by doom-metalers Funeral, and she began singing for them from 1999-2003, then immersing herself in improvisation, jazz, metal, classical, electronica, rock and pop. She was soon well established as a vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Hukkelberg studied at Norwegian University College of Music in Oslo, where she made friends with her tutor Kåre Chr. Vestrheim. He set up Propeller Recordings, and released Hukkelberg's debut EP, ‘Cast Anchor’ and then her first full length, 'Little Things'. In 2005, UK-based The Leaf Label released ‘Cast Anchor’, followed by ‘Little Things’, which had international press taking notice. Hukkelberg was noted as one of The Sunday Times's top 10 of the year, and she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year at New York’s Plug Independent Music Awards. At the beginning of 2007, Hanne received the Spellemannsprisen, the Norwegian equivolent of the Grammy, for ‘Rykestrasse 68’. In March of 2010 she relocated to New York to begin work on her fourth album, and embarked on a series of solo concerts. She went on to release 'Featherbrain' in 2012, and returns in 2017 with September's single, Embroidery, a track from her new album, 'Trust', set for release on October 20. Hanne Hukkelberg has confirmed a headline show at London's Pickle Factory this November. Catch her live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.
