Often credited as popularising Iraqi music far beyond the country’s borders—particularly during very challenging times of war—he released his debut album 'Shajarat Al Zaytoon' in 1984. Since then, he has dropped a further 22 studio records, with his most recent being 2016's 'Kitab Al Hob', and has collaborated with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, and became the first Arab artist to participate in the official album of the 2004 Summer Olympics.
