English football club Manchester City traces its history to a football team founded in 1880 by members of St. Mark's Church in Manchester. They were originally known as Ardwick AFC in 1887, and prior to that St Marks West Gorton in 1880.

Nicknamed "the Sky Blues" and "the Citizens", they adopted their sky blue home shirts in 1894, in the first season with their current name.

Starting out at their originally ground Hyde Road, which was destroyed in a fire, in 1923 they took their first of two stadium moves to Maine Road in Moss Side, where they would stay until the club moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2003.

Over the last few years, Manchester City has also developed a notable rivalry with Liverpool Football Club. Over the course of their history, they have won eight league titles, six FA Cups, eight League Cups, six FA Community Shields, and one European Cup Winners' Cup.
