Formed in 1912, Newport County Association Football Club are based in Newport, South Wales.
In the 1980s, the club suffered financial difficulties alongside a double relegation, costing them their Football League status in 1988. They reformed the following year and were elected to the Hellenic League, four divisions below the Football League. With a mission to regain their Football League status, the club took on the name Newport AFC and adopted the nickname The Exiles, after being forced to play home matches for the 1989–90 season at Moreton Rangers Football Club's London Road ground in Gloucestershire. Rodney Parade has been the base of Newport County AFC since 2012 after it was decided that their former home Spytty Stadium could no longer meet the club's requirements. They share their current stadium with Newport RFC who had been using the stadium since the 1800s, and Newport Gwent Dragons (now Dragons). Their usual home colours are amber shirts and black shorts.
