The Monkees were the original boyband and featured Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Michael Nesmith. Unfortunately, Dolenz and Nesmith are the only surviving members of the band, with Tork and Jones having passed away in 2019 and 2012, respectively.
Having sold over 50 million records in their hayday, the Monkees provided the soundtrack to teenage lives on both sides of the Atlantic. Initially created for a television show about a band who wanted to be, but never reached the success of the Beatles, The Monkees ironically grew to be so popular they progressed into a hugely successful pop group with fans such as John Lennon describing them as 'the Marx Brother of Rock'. During their peak, The Monkees even outsold both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined! They've toured the world and were the original band that has inspired groups such as The Backstreet Boys, Take That, Boyzone and JLS. They put out their self-titled debut album in 1966, and released ten more before the turn of the century, with 'Justus' landing in 1996. The band celebrated their 50th anniversary with their first new album in 20 years, 'Good Times', in 2016 and also released 'Christmas Party' in 2018. The Monkees with Dolenz and Nesmith will take their Farewell Tour across the US in fall 2021. It will include new and rescheduled dates.
