The Raincoats are a British post-punk band from London featuring Ana da Silva, Gina Birch, Anne Wood and Jean-Marc Butty.
Formed in 1997, the band released their debut single, Fairytale in the Supermarket/In Love/ Adventures Close to Home, in 1979, via Rough Trade Records, followed by their debut self-titled later in the year. ‘Odyshape’ came out in 1981, followed by ‘Moving’ in 1984, before the members went off to work on solo projects. The band reformed in 1994, after support from Kurt Cobain, reignited interest in the band. They were set to support Nirvana on their UK tour but Cobain died before the tour took place. They released a fourth album, ‘Looking in the Shadows’, in 1996. The Raincoats are set to play a show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall in November for Rough Trade's 40th Anniversary, alongside Angel Olsen.
