Turisas are a Finnish folk-metal and symphonic power metal outfit hailing from Hämeenlinna. Formed in 1997 by frontman Mathias NygÃ¥rd and guitarist Jussi Wickström, they’re now joined by latest members drummer Jaakko Jakku and bassist Jesper Anastasiadis, who both joined in 2012, alongside violinist Olli Vänskä and keyboard-player Robert Engstrand. They’re known for their crazy onstage appearance, which sees them in full body war-paint and costumes, and are often described as ’battle metal’.
This is following the release of their 2004 debut album ’Battle Metal’, a record which secured them a worldwide following - as well as festival slots across the globe. They released their sophomore record ’The Vangarian Way’ in 2007, and followed it up with ’Stand Up and Fight’ in 2011. 2013 sees album number four coming our way - check below to see when you catch them performing their new material in the UK!
