Paul Smith of Maximo Park will release 'Our Lady of Lourdes' on 1st November, the first single from his debut solo album 'Margins'.
Written and recorded in under 24 hours, 'Our Lady of Lourdes' has a propulsive beat, dreamy guitars and according to Smith, the song's mysterious lyrics revolve around “a short story describing a sign language conversation” as well as touching on “how religion provides comfort to those who need it”. It’s one of the more electric songs on a record that also finds Smith exploring his love of acoustic and experimental sounds. You can have a listen to the track at Smith's SoundCloud page.
'Margins', Paul's debut solo album is released on his very own Billingham Records on October 11th with the first single 'Our Lady of Lourdes' backed by a cover of Arthur Russell's 'A Little Lost' released on November 1st. The album is a collection of personal and intimate self-penned songs recorded with friend and co-producer Andy Hodson over the past four years with Field Music’s David Brewis playing bass on the record.
Smith, accompanied by a band, will take to the road in November. He says “I've been waiting to play these songs live for a while now so that should ensure an excitable performance although the songs will require a different execution to those of Maximo Park; less frenetic movement but no less emotion or commitment.”
With his solo album now ready for release, Paul Smith has revealed that he is currently writing new material with Maximo Park.
Paul Smith takes to the road with a full band for the following UK dates:
