The Specials Planning "Something Fantastic" For The UK Next Year

Reunited ska revival band the Specials have revealed their their desire to continue performing and confirmed that new material is definitely on the way. If that wasn’t enough to excite fans, the band also revealed that they are planning something “fantastic” for the UK next autumn.

Having taken their reunion show on the road for nearly two years now, plans for some new material by the Specials have been on the table for some time. Speaking back in February of this year, guitarist and vocalist Lynval Golding began the hype for some new music after revealing to Spinner, “It makes sense to get some new ideas together. It will happen."

Singer for the Specials, Terry Hall, later revealed the exciting news to BBC 6 Music, explaining, "We've already started talking about plans for autumn of next year in Britain to do something fantastic; those plans are being worked on now. We know that we want to carry on making music.”

Backing up Hall's statement, drummer John Bradbury confirmed that the Specials are set to record again although warned that fans should expect something different. "Going forward is a healthy thing to do," he said. "We've discussed things that might take a different route. It'll be different to what we've done just because it has to be really. We can't keep doing the same set. We need to combine elements of what we've done before with elements of what we've always wanted to do. The opportunity has presented itself to move on from where we left off."

The Specials will be looking to “combine new elements” to their existing catalogue to create new recordings. Hall added that they group will look into experimenting with styles “we've always wanted to do.”
