Mike Marlin to Perform at HMV Next Big Thing This Week & Tickets

Mike Marlin is to perform at London’s Jazz Café venue on Wednesday 9th February as part of this year’s week-long HMV Next Big Thing festival. Headlining the gig will be solo artists Josh Weller and Rose Elinor Dougal, one of the original members of The Pipettes.

The performance will coincide with the release of Mike’s new single ‘Play That Game’ on 7th February and his debut album ‘Nearly Man’, which is out the following week on 14th February. Watch the new video for ‘Play That Game’ below.

Mike Marlin was born in Wimbledon in the ‘60s and has spent the last 25 years writing songs and making music. In his earlier years, he was the bass player for a number of bands that never made it. Speaking about those days, Mike said: “I'd write songs and stand at the back playing bass. There is no comparison between playing bass in a band and being the frontman. You may be only four feet away in terms of where you're standing, but it's a hundred-million miles away.”

Mike recently started working with producer James Durrant, with whom he made his debut album ‘Nearly Man’, which will be released on 14th February. Click here to read a review of the album by Stereoboard’s Jonny Rimmer.

HMV Next Big Thing 2011 takes place between 4th and 11th February at six of London's HMV venues - the Borderline, Camden Barfly, Heaven, the Jazz Café, the Relentless Garage and Upstairs at the Relentless Garage. A number of gigs will also be held in Birmingham and Edinburgh. This is the second HMV Next Big Thing festival following 2010's event, which saw performances from Ellie Goulding, Professor Green, Marina and the Diamonds, Paloma Faith, Eliza Doolittle and You Me At Six.
