Indie pop rock punk legends Carter USM are back to play two big headline shows this Winter after a two year break.
After reuniting for reunion shows in 2007- 2009, last year saw a Carter sabbatical. Due to constant fan demand, Jim Bob and Fruitbat are returning for two kick ass shows at the Manchester Academy (18th November) and O2 Academy Brixton (19th November). It’s their first Manchester show for over 14 years. Both dates will see mammoth two hour sets where they promise to play all the hits and classics.
Jim Bob says, “I've loved playing the reunion shows. Every time we've done them we've said they would be the last but the gigs end up being just so good - easily some of the best ever Carter shows - that it seems mad to not do it at least once more. We took a break so I could concentrate on the publication of my novel ‘Storage Stories’ and appear in the Edinburgh Fringe hit musical ‘Gutted’. Fruitbat has been busy with his band Abdoujaparov and he's also finally moved out of South London to Folkestone, where his new house is falling down, so he's been spending a lot of time at B & Q. It’s great to have the chance to do this again, and we want to make these gigs the best Carter gigs ever."
Fruitbat adds “It’s going to be all killer and no Glenn Miller. We promise to play the songs everyone wants to hear, though having said that I may persuade Jim to chuck in a couple of cheeky obscure numbers and covers at the end. And once again we will go to town on a light show more crazy than Pink Floyd’s that should blind everyone for at least a month afterwards. We are doing these shows for all those fans that were gutted to not have a Carter gig last year. And I also have a house to renovate. Life on the coast is cheap but not that cheap!”
Carter USM had six top thirty albums (four of which went top ten) and fourteen top forty hits from 1987-1997. After a ten year break they reformed for two shows in 2007 at O2 Academy Brixton and Glasgow Barrowlands. Both shows sold out and the Brixton show sold all five thousand tickets with minimal publicity in just a few days. The audience also smashed venue bar records! They returned in 2008 for further sell out shows at Birmingham and Brixton O2 Academy venues. 2009 saw ‘The Drum Machine Years’ where they played their first four albums at the London venues The Kentish Town Forum and O2 Academy Brixton. These sold out too! To see Carter USM live this November:
Fri 18 November 2011 - Manchester Academy 1 (£22.50)
Sat 19 November 2011 – London, O2 Academy Brixton (£25.00)
