Sara Bareillas - Kaleidoscope Heart (Album Review)

From the very first track, 'Kaleidoscope heart', you know that you're in for something different and very very special from one of the most talented, most underrated young artists around.

ImageThe first single from Sara Bareillas' third album is called 'King of Anything', and is without doubt, one of the catchiest, sticks-in-your-head-all-day type of song that I have heard in a long time. Incredibly fun, flawless vocals and of course, the honest, up front lyrics which we're so used to hearing from Sara. Sara's singles always tend to show us her feisty, independent side, for example, taking us back to good old 2007, we remember the very much loved 'Love Song'. And now we have the amazing 'King of Anything'.

The second single off of the album is 'Uncharted', which is personally, my favourate track off of the whole album. My reason being that, nowadays, we're so used to typical, female solo singer type songs; cheesy, over the top vocals and worst of all, lyrics which would make anyone cringe... but somehow, Sara's managed to create a typical, female solo singer type song, but without the cheese, without the over the top vocals and most definitely no cringe worthy lyrics. She's created a simple, catchy, cutesy song, which still gives off her feisty, independent personality, and I for one love it.

'Gonna Get Over You' is another top song on the album. Heartbreak; a subject taken quite seriously and seen as rather depressing and dramatic to young teens all over the world! Yet, Sara's created this upbeat, uplifting, lovely little song, which is bound to lift those teens spirits in their times of need. See, who wants to cry their hearts out listening to Mariah Carey or Celine Dion when they can dance around their rooms to this instead?

A more mellow sounding track has now been announced as the singers next single; this track being 'Hold my Heart'. If it weren't for Sara's beautifully distinctive voice, I almost would have had to check whether I was listening to the right person. 'Hold my Heart' is quite a bit different to the usual singles which have been released by the singer, as in, it's quite a bit more soulful and balled-sounding. The beat throughout reminds me of Alicia Keys own single 'Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart,' and after this track had finished, I genuinely wondered why Sara hasn't yet been put into the same league as Alicia. Maybe a duet with Jay Z would do it?

'Basket Case' is another one of my new favourate songs. Even more mellow than 'Hold my Heart', 'Basket Case' is a beautifully simple, beautifully sung, acoustic love song. Pouring with personality and style, no one could deny that this is simply, a great song.

But don't just take my word for it. If you haven't already, I would strongly advise giving the album a listen, because I'm pretty sure you will love at least half, if not all of the tracks on it.
