Ed Sheeran Reveals Details Of Debut Single 'The A Team' - Out June 12th

Introducing Ed Sheeran - the flame-haired guitar genius set to soundtrack our summer with his debut single, ‘The A Team’. Set for release on June 12th via Asylum Records, Ed is already enjoying massive support from the likes of Radio 1Xtra and XFM, where ‘The A Team’ is on the daytime play list. Added to Radio 1’s playlist 6 weeks out from release, Zane Lowe bestowed his highest accolade ‘Hottest Record In The World’ and both he and Fearne Cotton made the track ‘Record of the Week’. There are also remixes by True Tiger (Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Plan B); Bristol based collective Koan Sound and Shy FX.

Ed wrote the song about a girl he met called Angel, whilst volunteering at a Crisis homeless shelter. The video shot on location in Angel, N1 by young photographer Ruskin Kyle tells a moving story.  Currently on rotation at MTV, NME, QTV and pop channel Starz, the video also has a major online draw, pulling 25,000 views a day and 1.4 million in total on Ed’s channel:

Before signing to Asylum Records (part of Atlantic Records) in early 2011, Ed had already self-released 5 E.P’s selling tens of thousands of copies out of his backpack at gigs, his website and digital stores. January’s ‘No.5 Collaborations’ E.P (featuring hip-hop and grime favourites: Devlin, Wretch 32 and Wiley to name a few), stormed to #2 in the iTunes chart after just 24 hours, outsold only by Rihanna.

With buckets of soul, incredibly affecting songs and thrilling live performances, Ed has built a large and dedicated fan base and won over key media tastemakers. Last month he announced a free gig at London’s Barfly to thank loyal fans. The show day saw dramatic scenes as 1000 kids descended on the Camden venue prompting Ed to play 3 back to back gigs in the venue and a fourth on the street outside so as not to disappoint his fans.  It was a watershed moment and one which led to a spot on LATER…with Jools Holland where Ed performed ‘The A Team’ and ‘Wayfaring Stranger’.

A nationwide tour will see Ed gig relentlessly through the summer including two sold-out shows at London’s Scala on July 6 & 7 and three record-breaking sold-out shows at Norwich’s Waterfront - July 11, 12 and 13. Many main stage festival appearances are also confirmed, finishing his epic run of dates at Bestival on September 10.

‘The A Team’ is the first single from the hugely anticipated forthcoming album ‘+’ out later this year.
