The Feeling - A Hundred Sinners (Come And Get It) (Single Review)

‘The Feeling’ released their pop phenomenon on Britain in late 2005 with their first single ‘Fill My Little World’ which hit number 7 in the British charts. Since then, these West Sussex boys have released two more studio albums and countless singles which have branded them one of Britain’s most successful pop groups.

ImageTheir trademark harmonies and bouncy keyboard sounds make ‘The Feeling’ one of a kind, and their jingle-friendly indie pop served well, securing them a spot in the indie craze back in 2004 to 2006. With their second album not creating as much of a craze as their previous album and with the indie fad out of the window, the boys changed their sound in an attempt to entice popularity and a bigger fan base. ‘Together We Were Made’ was produced with a supplementary electropop vibe, though the fundamental problem with ‘The Feeling’ still rings loud and clear throughout most of the record – particularly in its indie-fest single ‘A Hundred Sinners (Come And Get It).

Unfortunately for these West Sussex lads, they don’t come across as being at all very consistent in their self-made music or lyrical abilities, and worst of all find some good hooks that they inevitably ruin with uninventive lyrics about love loss and partying.

There isn’t much to offer for the listeners on ‘A Hundred Sinners (Come And Get It)’. Sure, it sounds like celebrative title, though while listening you get a distinct impression that these boys had far more fun recording it that anyone would ever have listening to it. Saying that though, the song itself really isn’t that bad. The lyrics from the song set a very upbeat, boozy and lively atmosphere in the midst of a house party. The single is accompanied throughout with a characterised piano melody – making it very difficult not to dance to when you get to the chorus which is pretty similar to the energy of ‘Take That’ single ‘Shine’. The song, although not as well written as some of their earlier work, is on the whole a catchy and up-tempo single which was obviously written as a chart single, rather than an easy listening single.

Though disappointing, I don’t think that the lack of lyrical talent will stop ‘A Hundred Sinners (Come And Get It)' hitting the charts this year. It’s catchy and shows that ‘The Feeling’ can portray a good array of musical diversity – much different to the charming ‘Sewn’.
