Devin Townsend Project, Ulver, Godflesh, Evile & More Confirmed For UK Damnation Festival

It’s not often a UK metal festival can get three kings of the underground on its bill, but that is exactly what Damnation has managed this year.
The annual bash at Leeds University has not only secured Devin Townsend as main stage headliner but also masters of dark electronica Ulver and industrial metal behemoths Godflesh to head up its 2011 line-up. “It’s not often that bookings go our way so to be able to announce the Devin Townsend Project in a year when Ulver and Godflesh have already confirmed, is something special”, festival organiser Gavin McInally said when confirming Townsend as headliner back in August.
Indeed the entire bill is something that should have lovers of metal, and indeed experimental music in general, salivating. Highlights lower down the stages include the genuine brutality of Dragged into Sunlight and the avant-garde ‘blackjazz’ of Norway’s Shining. With a healthy dose of rising British acts such as Huddersfield thrashers Evile (pictured) and prog trio Amplifier making sure that the festival has a more home grown feel than Bloodstock usually would, the only problem with Damnation this year might be that there won’t be enough time to see all the bands.
Stage times have yet to be confirmed but rest assured that the Damnation team will be doing their best to ensure that fans will be able to catch as many acts as possible across the Jagermeister, Terrorizer and Rock Sound stages over the course of the day. With a line-up that manages, in a single day, threatens to put this year’s Bloodstock to shame and tickets priced at only £29 without booking fee, there is little excuse not to head over to Leeds on the 5th November.
Ulver and Decapitated are UK exclusives. Visit www.damnationfestival.co.uk for more details about the festival.
