London-based rapper and producer Roots Manuva has stormed back to into the UK hip-hop and dub scene with a new album and the announcement of an early 2012 UK tour.
It's easy for the reviews of '4everevolution', Manuva’s new LP release, to leave everyone with no doubt as to how important Rodney Smith is to British hip-hop and British music in general. Clocking in at just a few seconds under an hour long and consisting of seventeen tracks, the album covers every style from wonky reggae through pop-funk, street spitting, straight up hip hop, sung ballads and epic death-disco.
From the very start we said we thought it was his very best work since 'Run Come Save Me', and it turns out everyone else felt the same way. And by everyone else, we mean critics up and down the country – they’ve all turned in favourable reviews for the record. Metro gave it 5/5 and ‘Album of the Week’, writing of the LP: “Everything on this album seems to burst with brilliant vitality”.
Line of Best Fit described it as a “veritable treasure chest of an album, an embarrassment of riches proving that one of the UK’s longest-serving rappers is also one of its most vital and relevant.”.
Drowned in Sound agreed – they think it’s his “most assured and compelling listen to date. Roots Manuva just keeps on delivering - here’s to another decade.”
So with no doubt in Manuva’s ability to constantly put out top notch music, it was about time he organised a UK tour to showcase his talent up and down the country. If you want to catch the man live this coming January and February, check the dates and details below.
